Abstract (English): This document details the BEST ontology infrastructure developed in task 1.1 of the BEST Project. The ontology infrastructure includes a monolithic ontology developed from the ATM Information Reference Model (AIRM) UML model and a set of ontology modules, each representing different sub-areas of ATM information exchange, namely Aeronautical Information Exchange Model (AIXM) and ICAO Meteorological Information Exchange Model (IWXXM). All ontologies are formalised in the OWL ontology language. The ontologies will be used as vocabulary for describing and supporting retrieval of relevant aeronautical information by applications developed in other work packages of the project. Furthermore, the ontologies form a baseline for the establishment of guidelines describing how semantic technologies can be applied to support information exchange in a SWIM environment.
