Abstract
P. Lang:
Entwicklung eines Workflow Systems auf Basis eines aktiven objektorientierten Datenbanksystems
(Development of a workflow system based on a active object-oriented database system) Workflow systems are networked computer applications, which support members of an organization in defining, analysing, and enacting of work processes.A workflow system usually consists of two components: a workflow modeling component and a workflow enactment component. The modeling component covers definition, analysis and simulation of workflows and the assignment of work steps to organizational units. The enactment component supports the scheduling, execution, and monitoring of work steps.
The workflow system prototype developed in this diploma thesis is based on an active extension of a commercial object-oriented database system. The main objective of the thesis is to increase flexibility both during modeling and enactment by applying active and object-oriented concepts. For example, event-condition-action rules are used for specifying the activity ordering of workflows, and the assignment of working steps to organizational units is due to an object-oriented role concept. The prototype mainly pays attention to the development of basic concepts for using rules and for object-oriented modeling of organisations, data and activities within a workflow system.
