Abstract:

In this talk, associate prof. Anastasija Nikiforova will provide an overview of her current research activities, aiming to foster discussion and explore potential collaboration opportunities with the University of Linz. The talk will cover three interrelated areas: (1) the conceptualization of data ecosystems and their role in digital transformation; (2) data governance with a specific focus on AI-augmented data quality management; and (3) the responsible adoption of AI within data ecosystems, exploring how socio-technical and organizational conditions across the data lifecycle shape the meaningful integration of AI tools in complex data-driven environments. Drawing on both conceptual and empirical work, the talk will highlight key challenges and open research questions at the intersection of governance, collaboration and emerging technologies.

About the Author:

Anastasija Nikiforova is an Associate Professor of Applied AI and Information Systems at the University of Tartu (Institute of Computer Science, Chair of Software Engineering). Her research centers on the conceptualization and governance of data ecosystems, their role in digital transformation, and the responsible adoption of emerging technologies, particularly AI. Her work emphasizes process optimization, data quality management, and governance in digital and (public) data ecosystems, with a strong focus on ethical and societal implications. Her research also spans AI-powered user–system interaction tools, such as recommender systems and virtual assistants, with the goal of improving user experience and support decision-making. Positioned at the intersection of technology, society, and policy, her research address broader challenges of resilience, and inclusivity in complex socio-technical systems. She is also part of European Open Science Cloud Task Force “FAIR Metrics and Digital Objects”, and part of Scientific ? Technical Advisory Board of Switch Connectome. She is an Editorial Board Member and an Associate Editor for several journals (e.g., International Journal of Information Management (IJIM), Government Information Quarterly, IEEE Transactions on Technology and Society, BMC Research Notes (Springer Nature), eJournal of eDemocracy and Open Government (JeDEM), Data ? Policy (Cambridge Press)), and track/workshop chair for top public administration and AI and IS conferences (e.g., (IFIP) EGOV-CEDEM-EPART, International Conference on Digital Government Research (dg.o), ECAI2025, CBI-EDOC 2025, IJCAI2025, PRICAI2025, ICA2025, HICSS2026). She is an associate member of the Latvian Open Technology Association, and an EDSC ambassador (European Digital Skills Certificate, as part of Action 9 of the Digital Education Action Plan (2021- 2027) – JRC/SVQ/2022/OP/0013), member of International Federation for Information Processing Working Group 8.5 (IFIP WG8.5 on ICT and Public Administration), part of Digital Government Society Committee, incl. DGS Chapter on Governing Smart Sustainable Cities (DGS GSSC), as well as Women in AI.
